How ADP and Deel differ
ADP and Deel both operate at global scale, but their reason for being is different. ADP grew out of payroll processing and has spent decades building multi-country consolidation platforms (GlobalView and Celergo) and a full HCM suite for large, established multinationals. Deel grew out of the more recent need to hire and pay people anywhere without setting up a local entity – its EOR model, spanning 150+ countries, lets companies employ staff in a market before they have local infrastructure.
In AU/NZ specifically, ADP has operated for 40+ years with a Melbourne headquarters, offering cloud software and outsourced managed payroll. Deel's AU payroll runs through Astute Payroll, acquired via Paygroup, with anomaly detection delivered through Payroll Detective as part of Deel AI Workforce. Both providers support STP Phase 2, but they are answering different buyer questions: ADP is for organisations consolidating established, ongoing payroll operations across many countries; Deel is for organisations that need to hire and pay people quickly in new markets, often without a local legal entity.
