Enterprise AU/NZ payroll (retiring)

Preceda is being retired – what AU/NZ enterprises need to know

Preceda is an enterprise AU/NZ payroll and time platform now being retired in favour of Dayforce, following the 2021 Ascender acquisition. Preceda reached end-of-life in 2026.

Preceda has long served complex AU/NZ enterprise payroll requirements. Following Dayforce's 2021 Ascender acquisition and Preceda's 2026 end-of-life, existing customers now need a migration plan.

Preceda customers broadly have two paths: migrate onto Dayforce (which now owns the Preceda/Ascender lineage), or move to a different AU/NZ payroll platform entirely. Since a migration is happening either way, it's a natural point to re-evaluate the vendor relationship rather than default to the acquiring platform.

Whichever path an organisation takes, migration planning – data integrity, parallel runs, award and EBA re-configuration, and compliance continuity – is the critical risk to manage during the transition.

What Preceda customers should evaluate

  • Preceda reached end-of-life in 2026 – a migration plan is required regardless of destination
  • Dayforce (via the Ascender acquisition) is one migration path, not the only one
  • A forced migration is a natural point to re-evaluate the vendor relationship
  • Prioritise migration experience with complex AU/NZ award and EBA re-configuration

Frequently asked questions

Why is Preceda being retired?

Dayforce inherited Preceda through its 2021 Ascender acquisition, and Preceda reached end-of-life in 2026, requiring existing customers to migrate to another platform.

Do I have to migrate to Dayforce?

No. Dayforce is one migration path since it now owns the Preceda/Ascender lineage, but Preceda customers can also migrate to a different AU/NZ payroll platform. Since a migration is required either way, it's worth evaluating alternatives rather than defaulting to the acquiring platform.

What should I prioritise in a Preceda migration?

Data integrity, parallel pay runs to validate accuracy, re-configuration of complex awards and EBAs, and continuity of AU/NZ compliance (STP, Holidays Act, superannuation) through the transition.
